EEG biofeedback therapeutic apparatus realizes non-invasive auxiliary treatment for mental and psychological disorders such as anxiety, insomnia and depression by relying on real-time physiological signal feedback technology via audio-visual dual channels.
Medical light-transmitting silicone rubber serves as a core high-quality material for medical optical accessories. It integrates multiple superior properties including high light transmittance, high resilience, lightweight structure, favorable biocompatibility, excellent repeated bending resistance and zero skin irritation, with overall performance superior to conventional rigid light guide materials.
The silicone light guide strip designed in this study is embedded inside the forehead part of the therapeutic apparatus headband. When worn, it closely fits the human forehead skin, with its back precisely attached to the LED light source module, and comb-shaped EEG electrode arrays arranged on both sides. The compact layout avoids interference with core functional components. Combined with the working principle of the device and clinical application scenarios, its core functional requirements are summarized into three categories as follows:
The strip evenly transmits light from the LED light source and delivers soft light output through the material’s light diffusion property, completely eliminating local intense light and glare irritation existing in traditional light guide structures. Meanwhile, it converts real-time EEG training data and physiological signal fluctuations into intuitive, dynamic light changes, realizing accurate visual feedback of EEG training status and improving the intuitiveness and effectiveness of biofeedback training.
Made of high-resilience medical-grade silicone, the strip deforms freely following the curved headband to fit forehead contours of different users without scalp compression. It avoids extrusion, shielding or displacement interference on the bilateral comb-shaped EEG electrodes, maintains tight contact between electrodes and scalp, and structurally guarantees stable and accurate collection of EEG signals.
The material and structural design strictly comply with relevant standards for medical silicone rubber. The material features no harmful substance precipitation, no skin sensitization or irritation, suitable for long-term skin contact. It also boasts outstanding resistance to wiping, disinfection and aging under repeated bending, meeting the high-frequency and long-term clinical usage demands of rehabilitation and psychology departments.
Combining the curved contour of the therapeutic apparatus headband, layout of bilateral comb-shaped electrode arrays and physiological curves of human forehead, an integrated special-shaped structural optimization design is carried out for the silicone light guide strip. Traditional regular light guide structures are abandoned to achieve dual optimization of structure and function.
The light guide strip adopts a large-radius curved surface matching human forehead, which perfectly fits the curved spring pin contour of the headband. Full contact can be achieved during wearing without suspension, protrusion or local compression, greatly improving the wearing comfort of the equipment.
The lightweight medical silicone light guide strip designed in this paper is a special flexible optical accessory matched with EEG biofeedback therapeutic apparatus. It effectively addresses industrial pain points of traditional rigid light guide components, including excessive weight, strong wearing compression, glaring light, easy interference with electrode adhesion and impaired signal acquisition accuracy. Through material selection and structural optimization, the design simultaneously improves equipment wearing comfort, precision of optical feedback and stability of EEG signal collection, and enhances the overall performance of lightweight EEG biofeedback devices. It can better support the clinical application and promotion of biofeedback therapy in non-invasive auxiliary treatment of mental and psychological disorders including anxiety, depression and insomnia.
